What You Actually Need to Cross Into the BVI
Any charter that crosses from St. Thomas into the British Virgin Islands — Jost Van Dyke, Norman Island, the Baths — requires a valid passport for every guest aboard, plus customs and immigration clearance on arrival and departure. This applies to every BVI-bound charter, full-day or custom.
Before your trip
- Confirm every guest's passport is valid (most jurisdictions require 6+ months of validity beyond your travel date — check your own passport's issuing country rules).
- Have passports physically on board — a photo or scan isn't accepted for customs clearance.
- Budget separately for customs/immigration fees and fuel — these aren't included in the base charter price.
Staying in the USVI instead?
If your group doesn't have passports ready, a USVI-only charter — St. John beaches, snorkeling, sunset cruises out of Red Hook — needs none of the above. It's entirely U.S. waters, no customs stop.
